Also remember that cases are only effective if used correctly, (i.e. closed and latched). I recently had an unfortunate incident where I left a nice luthier guitar in its case on a chair with the lid open, albeit against my better judgement, as I figured it would be okay for a minute or two. Wrong! We have a very active cat who frequently loves to jump inside my open guitar case. Unfortunately this time there was a guitar inside it, and said cat tipped the case dumping the instrument face down onto the floor. The guitar escaped with minor dings and scratches but as the case flipped, the latch hit another guitar which was close by, badly scratching the top. Lesson learned. By all means protect your guitar, keep it properly humidified etc. but if you store it in its case, use those latches!!
