Recently I listened to Takemitsu's 12 songs for songs for guitat, which are popular and folk songs concert arrangements for guitar. So I was wondering if you can think any other quality arrangements to suggest. Of the top of my mind also Roland Dyens is a great example. By popular I don't necessarily mean pop as genre but songs from several genres that are known to a majority of people
The only arrangers of popular songs from the past 70 years or so that I rate highly are those in collections by Stan Ayeroff and Laurindo Almeida. I have a book by John Duarte and it really does not flow at all.
Since I am only a beginner/intermediate I'm not sure if what you consider advanced is the same as to what I consider advanced, but anyways:
Per Olov-Kindgren has some nice popular arrangements and this guy has some, too. Or this guy. But I suspect that you might be looking for something even more advanced.
I feel that the best of arrangements of popular songs are the ones you do yourself. I know that this takes a certain amount of trial and error, but it is well worth the effort. It almost feels like it's your own song if you do it yourself.
I suggest "The Beatles for Classical Guitar" arranged by John Washington, published 1974. It is not really brandnew, but it could be a challenge to an intermediate level guitaris. As far as i know there is a volume 2 as well.
