I had one many years ago, and removed it with a bottle of champagne on a chopping board during a Sunday afternoon lunch party. Wouldn't really recommend it, but the champagne did help dull the pain!

There's an episode of Doc Martin where a kid tries it on someone by using a heavy book, and the message is that it is NOT considered the correct medical procedure nowadays. (everything in Doc Martin is medically approved by a consultant physician)

My husband had a large cyst and had to have surgery. I think it depends on the size.

Wow - if there is one thing I've learned about healthcare - there is too much for any one person to know. I just learned what a ganglion cyst is. Treatment options could be elegant and done under sterile conditions, or you could "whack it with a bible" as my astute forum friends have indicated. :D

Wait. I'm an atheist. Is it okay for me to use a physics text book? :D
