David Gaudreau - Modern CG composer - Recommended

Post by halfbeat » Sat Sep 09, 2017 1:14 am

Recently discovered this French-Canadian guitarist and really enjoy his music. It's in the folksy-classical style of Andrew York, Pat Coldrick et al.
If your public library participates in Freegal, there are two albums you can snag there for free (with some duplicate tunes for some reason), and I found a few other very nice tunes elsewhere on another album titled Portait.

He has some nice pieces. Do you know if they are inspired at all by French folk music?

I should check him out. I am currently enjoying Yvon Demillac and have been on a binge of sorts but am now interested in finding someone new.

Thanks to you I just discovered a song of his on youtube-- Cantabile that I think would be fun to learn.

Tom, that's very cool that you checked him out... maybe he'll notice he's being discussed here and answer your question... I'm not familiar enough with pop/folk music history myself to respond.

Nice one, Dory! I also love Cantabile, and there are at least a dozen more I think are as excellent.

I got Cantabile which came together with Prélude and they are pretty and quite easy. If you are looking for something easy to play that doesn't sound like a student piece I recommend it. In fact I recommend it for anyone who is looking for contemporary music that is tonal.

I just watched his Preludio on YT, and I realized that I had heard this once a long time ago. Any idea where to find scores?
