Very nice. How much difference does Cedar vs Spruce make with a double top? Nomes or balsa?
This is nomex, as is the cedar. Dake has experimented with balsa, but I don't think he is quite as pleased with the results yet. Since I've just gotten the spruce, its a bit early to say. Both guitars still have the tonal qualities you expect from cedar or spruce, so I would say that whatever wood you prefer will work in a similar manner to what you are used to. My perception is that I have to push the spruce a bit more to get the sound out, but that it is more responsive to the pushing than the cedar is (but that is just comparing it to my
cedar double top). Also, Dake is using a slightly different bracing pattern now than he did in 2011. Both guitars are easy to play. My early opinion of the spruce is that it has more of a singing quality in the trebles than other spruces I have owned at this point in their development. Dake says the spruce doubletops continue to change over a shorter time frame than traditional spruces (more happens in less time).
