Lily of the West: Steve Eckels is a Genius!

Post by Altophile » Mon Oct 09, 2017 8:43 am

Hello all,

I searched the web to find a video (or audio) of someone playing Steve Eckels's superb arrangement of "Lily of the West". While I was unable to find video or audio, I did find that all but the last page or two are available for preview at Google Books:

In my opinion, this piece is even cooler than Classical Gas, though they are similar in character, and it is therefore remarkable to me that I hadn't heard it before I downloaded the audio from Mel Bay after buying the anthology, which is called "Fingerstyle Curriculum: Best Traditional Folk/ Solos". Try working your way through the pages that are available on Google, and I'm sure you'll want to pick up the anthology and learn the rest:-)

The anthology also includes Steve Eckels's wonderful arrangement of "Johnny Has Gone for a Soldier", Stefan Grossman's fun "Ms. Josaphine Ayres", and other goodies. This is one of the best anthologies I've come across.
