Best transcriptions of BWV 1001 1002 1003 1004 1005

Hi,
Before I start to study the musics in subject, I would like to know your opinion about the best transcriptions. Last week I went to a concert of Zoran Dukic in Oporto. It was fantastic! He played those musics.

your own?

seriously, if you really want to know and play this music, make it yours. free violin editions to work from (or just for sight-reading) are available at imslp.org.

gsp guitar has several complete editions arranged for guitar, and strings by mail has one.

but you will put in more work, in the end, with all the double-checking and re-fingering that inevitably accompanies such an endeavor.

listen to some recordings, read along. pick ONE movement you are really drawn to, and work that up to performance standard.

One chunk at a time 8)

I second the above post. In totality this is huge task. Get the violin original and read along as you listen and you will start to notice the things going on, added or moved notes, various issues and choices that must be made.
It also depends where you are coming from as a guitar student, and what you are willing to put in.
In the end there really is no best version, but as you get to know the works better you will start to understand what's best for you.

You could download Jacopo Gianninoto's transcription of the 3 sonatas only at imslp.org. They're fairly faithful to the originals without a lot of added harmonies, and with some good introductory material and information about embellishments etc.

Not to my knowledge. I've downloaded tons of stuff from there. They do ask for you to subscribe though and I probably will when my finances are better ;) Also not everything there is public domain for all countries. However if you don't want to go through imslp you can enter "jacopo gianninoto bach PDF" and find a direct link to another site.

What's about Manuel Barruecos version, I think he transcribed not all...?
It is his interpretation which is quite guitarristic. Still as above described I would find it worth to compair the original with the Barrueco transcription, and I would consider if there are thinks I don't like musically, these things I would try to improve - in my opinion. :reflechir:
