Best Duet Recordings?

Post by DLMJ-1234 » Thu Dec 07, 2017 11:40 am

Obviously the Bream/Williams is one of the best duet recordings ....

But are there any modern albums out there worth search out for....

Any recommendations?

Assad brothers, the best in history i think.
Duo Melis, one of the best.
Katona twins, also very good.

This might be a bit outside your search criteria, but I love the two duet cds by Ben Verdery and William Coulter - "Happy Here" and "Song for Our Ancestors"

Baroque Inventions CD
Guitar Duo Recital: Gray, Julian / Pearl, Ronald - SCARLATTI, D. / BACH, J.S. / HANDEL, G.F.

A classic. I hesitate to play it, because I become addicted to it for weeks
(OK months) at a time!

Sergio and Eduardo Abreu, brothers who made recordings in the early 70's.
I understand that the duo was relatively short-lived as one of the brothers disliked performing in public, but they produced very good music while it lasted. Very much a duo, as opposed to 'two guitarists'.
You can find some output on Youtube, e.g,

Oops :?

I just noticed that the OP asked for modern recordings....

Further info: the guitars are a 1930 Hauser and a Santos Hernandez.

Also Kupinscy Guitar Duo are great young musicians: https://www.youtube.com/user/kupinskiguitarduo/videos
They play really, really good and have some trios with Marcin Dylla.

I'm really enjoying the NoIZ guitar duo's CD Dos. Here's a video clip:
