Satie, Erik - Gnossienne #2 - Seven string - Video

Well this was a fun one to prepare. I haven't heard of many guitarists transcribing this one, so it was a bit of a novelty for me. Now I am proud to say I have 3 Satie pieces under my belt that are not Gymnopedie #1. Nice collection.

As usual, I appreciate any comments.

Hello Kurt,
do you have a pdf of your arrangement? It would be fun to play it on my 7 strings flamenca...
best
Robert

Bea, thanks for your kind words.

Robert, I'll try to get my arrangement to you tonight. It is not complete but most is there.

Very beautifully played! Now I finally could here it through a proper sound system (before I heard it only on the iPhone and the basses were totally missing). And thanks for the pdf.
I understand that you tune the 7th string as deep as G a major 6th below the usual bass E, right? Which string do you use for the 7th string? And which guitar?
Thanks again!

When the guitar was commissioned 16 years ago, I intended for the 7th to be either A or B, ie. a fourth or fifth below low E. For this piece I saw a need for a G and D note in the bass so I just tuned it down to G, and used the 7th fret harmonic for the D even though it's in the wrong octave. The string is a Savarez 5209 SI B9 that I buy in bulk from http://www.stringsbymail.com

The guitar is made by a local luthier, Jordan McConnell: http://www.mcconnellguitars.com/

Yes, this means you need proper speakers or headphones to hear the lowest notes. Just like a piano. I dig that. :-)

Looks like he got it right. Sounds very good to my ears...(the guitar, I mean)...

(I loved your version of Gymnopedie as well, one of my favorite songs.)
