Amalio Burguet Vanessa

Post by aivarsm78 » Mon May 30, 2016 5:43 am

Hello,
Does anyone have expirience with this guitar? Price 1400 EUR.
How do you think, are these guitars really hand made in their workshop in Catarroja?

Thanks.

A quick look at the Guitarras de luthier website indicates that they are "studio" guitars. The usual meaning of this is that they are built elsewhere to the specifications of the label owner. This is common practice in the guitar building industry, where there is a market for lower price guitars and a small workshop just cannot make enough.
This does mean that the label owner will probably have inspected all the guitars as they are bought in. It also suggests that he will have chosen his supplier quite carefully to get good quality at a lower price.
I have not seen these guitars personally.

Thanks OldPotter, you make it clear for me. I had suspicion, that there is something like you said - "they are built elsewhere to the specifications of the label owner".
That kind of practice, when "studio" guitars are made elsewhere, is officially confirmed by luthiers? There are no such information on their website...

The web site states categorically that ALL models are hand made in their workshop. It says in relation to the Vanessa model that it was designed by Amalio's daughter Vanessa and built by his son Damian Burguet. Seems pretty clear to me.

It's hard to believe, that all models are hand made, because guitars are available in large amounts and immediately...

Indeed Peter is right, they do state that the Vanessa model is made by Damian. My apologies, I was wrong. They have a range of several guitars all listed as "studio" but claim that these are all made in their own workshops. I think this is where my misunderstanding arose. Burguet has a very good reputation, I don't think they would claim something that wasn't true.

The Vanessa is a very good price for a young luthier.

It's never made clear who makes studio guitars, it probably wouldn't be a good business practice and anyway it might suit a label owner to change suppliers if they felt they weren't getting good value. It might suit a supplier to change too, if they had too many orders.

They do say they Damian is a student of lutherie, so they are not selling his guitars as having been built by a very experienced luthier. I suspect that is why they are cheaper.

So, may be it's common practice in the guitar building industry.

Yes, it probably is. That does not mean it applies to Burguet.

I'm thinking about purchasing Alhambra 10P or Burguet Vanessa. Unfortunately, I don't have option to test Vanessa, I may order it by mail.
