Need advice on $1000 guitar purchase in the US

Post by RobMacKillop » Wed Dec 07, 2016 8:10 pm

I have a guy writing to me from America, asking for advice on buying a student guitar in the States. His budget is $1,000 to $1,200 for a traditional Spanish-sounding instrument. I don't know what's available in the US for that price, so I'll pass on what you say. Thanks in advance.

I would recommend a Marlon Navarro guitar. Ramon here can provide more information. GSI sometimes has them in stock, others too I suspect.

Rob, it might be helpful to point them to the 'Buying and Selling' sub-forum.

I seem to remember questions like this coming up in the past but I can't get my search to come up with anything.

Cheers, Ken. That should have been obvious to me.

Stop it - I'm the master of missing the obvious! Enjoying your videos, by the way.

Hi, I'm the person Rob is asking for suggestions for...

Maybe I should add some details. I'm a 46 year old watchmaker who's decided to teach himself guitar after being inspired by Robs videos. I can read music (slowly and painfully) and purchased a copy of Frederick Noads solo guitar book. I really am new to the guitar outside of some punk rock playing in my early twenties.

I suspect something like that Ramirez R2 might be more guitar than I need right now, but I am open to suggestions!

C10 is definitely something that will fit your bil of playability and enjoyment as a beginner and even as a seasoned guitarist later. I do recommend the sales section as well but most of those are in the stratosphere of pricing even though the are great bargains for the instruments themselves.
I also would like to offer up one of mine I want to sell a brand new yamaha gc12 cedar for $500. Save the other half for savings. It sounds plenty a spanish sound as most will attest to it and surprisingly does. I would have kept it but the two guitars below in my sig I have to find ways to enjoy them bc I cant sell them. So some other guitars got to go. I also have a display model brand new cordoba 45mr for $650 w humicase hard case but I recommend the gc12

Yamaha GL1

It's about time we had a watchmaker here...

Good to see you on the forum, Barry. You have a lot to choose from, thanks to the above comments. I'd be interested in the R2 and the C10.
