Valuing a 1996 Amalio Burguet 1A

Postby etude61 » Tue Feb 28, 2017 8:56 pm

Hello,

An online shop has an 1996 Amalio Burguet 1A spruce and CSA rosewood (maybe Brazilian?) for $3500. It looks lovely and very well cared for in the photos, and from what I have read his guitars get very good reviews. If I decide to try it and I like the guitar is $3500 a fair price in your opinion?

Thank you for any thoughts on the guitar and the value.

I sold a 1996 one a few years ago for £1000 (could it be the same one)?

That price seems too high - a new 1A would be that price. Burguet are quality guitars, but even the 1As are at the lowest price end of luthier guitars.

Anything from £1000 - £2000 or around $1500 -$2500 would be more reasonable.

I've fallen in love with this tune:

The guitar is an Amalio Burguet 1A and just out of curiosity did a bit of research. The cheapest I found one was for around £2000 (online) and the London Guitar Studio sells them for around £2500. I would not pay $3500 for a 1996 when new ones are cheaper.
Remember Anthony Weller, please help. Contact myself or Aaron Green for details.

3 years ago, when I was looking for a guitar, I ran across an Amalio Burguet 1A spruce for sale for 1200 Euros

That's what I sold mine for about the same time - it was a bargain for the buyer, despite it having it a few scratches here and there.

When I bought the guitar new in 1996, it stood up to many other luthier guitars that were priced perhaps 30% -50% more expensive.
You won't go wrong with a 1A, but $3500 is definitely too much

Does anybody know if the AB models (higher that the 1As) are only cosmetically better (more attention to detail and finish), or are they actually better guitars to play as well?

I am also intrigued by the Vanessa model guitar, which looks very attractive as well.

Thanks for all the help. I thought that maybe the 1A back in 1996 was different than the 1A of today since it has the CSA rosewood and nice appointments, maybe closers to the upper models he offers today, as I have not seen today's 1A in anything other than Indian rosewood.
