2500€ for buying a guitar: Amalio Burguet, Juan Hernandez, Esteves, or...?

Post by AntonioMartinsPereira » Wed Mar 22, 2017 10:46 am

Hello,

The question that would like to have the opinion of the forum:

As I said in the introduction, since 2 years I started to "try" to play guitar. After this 2 years I decided that it is time to change my faithful "PACO CASTILLO 201" (by the way: I can only say well of my guitar) for a guitar up to 2500€ and I am inclined to acquire one in ABETO and I am with ideas of me Move to VAlencia.

In a first analysis the choice would be in one of these 3 constructors:

Amalio Burguet; Juan Hernandez; Esteves-Adalid.

What is your opinion about acquiring a guitar in these ways, and of these constructors?

Thank you and I await your help.

:merci:

They're all great guitars, I've owned a Hernandez concierto and Romance in spruce and cedar, Esteve adalid model 11, esteve adalid in cedar, an adalid hopf in cedar and am now selling a Adalid hauser in spruce.
They are all great guitars, if you want a loud modern sound go for Adalid Hopf, for traditional id go for Hernandez Romance and for a real focused spruce sound the Adalid Hauser.

Gary,

Thanks.

Your opinion has drawn attention to issues I had not yet been able to clearly identify in the constructors.

Yours help was precious.

About your way of playing guitar..... no words!

I have been playing an Amalio Burguet 1A for over 10 years and it's been a good guitar for me. However, why limit yourself to those three brands. If you are willing to go for a used guitar it is possible to find an older luthier concert guitar in your price range. Something that you wont outgrow as soon.

Sorry to butt in but reference Gary's response. An accomplished player and very familiar with Esteve. With what you have to spend, you will be looking at some of the best guitars Esteve has to offer.

Thank you guys.

The reason I'm inclined to choose a guitar between these three builder stresses is simple: I intend to move in Valencia and I can test, since the builders are located relatively close. In fact Esteve/Adalid is only 150 meters from Juan Hernandez.

If you are able, bring your current guitar with you for comparison.

Big Bird is right. You'll be very impressed with what the top end Esteve's offer. Start with the 7 series and work your way up. I don't know where you live but the Classical Guitar Store in Phila. Has a complete line available. Bill is the owner. Tell him Butch recommended him.

The answer is in your hands. Everyone will have every think, you can collect them to make your choice. Important, you need real test all of guitars that you love, feeling your hands, your ears, if everythings become comfortable, choosing is yours.

Well I would say with a budget of 2500 euros I would rather go on the second hand market and get a nice concert guitar.

And I am saying that being the owner to Esteve/Adalid guitar, having visited their workshop in Valencia, and with great esteem for them as builder of budget hand made guitar. Worth going there nevertheless, and if you pay cash you can get a good deal. And you save the trouble of having to wait until the one you are after shows up in the second hand market.

Other than that if you get an Artista Membrana Hopf/Adalid second hand for 2500 you will not make any mistake (Gary was selling one recently here), and get a very good guitar for a cheap price (keeping in mind it´s lattice, so it´s loud, sweet, but with less tonal variety - still very nice to play).

Well, what can I say?
All your comments have been helpful and, more importantly, reflect on your experience, which clearly is far superior to mine.
The result is that it has left me thinking ... and one thing is clearly decided: - I will choose some passages of some works with which I identify more, to better analyze the guitars on the feeling in ears and hands.

About second hand market .... I don't know. Yet.

And I have one more problem: i am inclined to acquire the guitar (top) in ABETO. But i like CEDAR too. With the years of playing which of them become "better"?

Can you give me some clues?

Tanks (one more time...)
