looking for help, dating a yamaha guitar.

Post by lasgil » Wed Apr 05, 2017 9:47 am

Not sure where if this is the right place to post, if not, sorry in advance.

considering buying a Yamaha CG151S, With serial number 00731335.
when i punch in the numbers in the serial wizard provided by Yamaha, i just get 31july and a range of years (1960,70, 80,90. 2000.) does any1 know how to decode a Yamaha serial or any other method to date the guitar to a specific year. i know Yamaha provides a pdf on the subject, but frankly i didnt understand it.

the reason why this is important to me, is 1 thickness of the neck and the difference in materials used for the fretboard. early Version have Ebony, later on they used rosewood.

its a long trainride for me to the seller, so any help is much apprectiated.

regards L

Possibly this.

YMMI, Made in Indonesia, 2000-:
##########. Ten numbers, like so: 0002180013.
The first two numbers are the year; 00=2000. The third and fourth numbers are the month; 02=February. The fifth and sixth numbers are the day; 18th. The last four numbers are the unit number; 13.

Just noticed, yours has eight numbers. But there's a category for that as well, though that particular factory stopped producing shortly after your model was introduced, which seems to be 1999 or 2000.

Be nice to it. Constant and open communication can be key as well.

I dated a Yamaha briefly but had to break it off. It was totally my fault. I just couldn't be faithful.

I think dating a yamaha is a very sensible option. Not expensive, but still high class. Wont let you down. You never have to worry about presenting her to your parents. Good move all around. Id go so far as to say just propose already.

Since it's under 18 years old, I wouldn't recommend dating it.

I did remember the smile of my first date, Yoko Yamaha, in my college days.

I always thought, 'dating' means trying to meet a nice girl or a nice boy (depending on which side you are). Now you try to date a Yamaha?

Imagine what it would seem to be if we started talking of "carbon dating" a guitar...
