Advice on valuing Fleta 1961 & Ignacio Fleta e Hijos 1970

Post by zauberfest » Tue Apr 11, 2017 12:31 pm

My family potentially want to sell one or both Ignacio Fleta guitars (1961 & 1970 - the latter an Ignacio Fleta e Hijos) that have become available due to a death in the family. I've attached some pictures of the 1961. I'm hoping someone can give me an idea as to the demand and ballpark value of these guitars. I've googled this and have a rough idea but would welcome any advice/opinions from the members of the forum.

One of the pictures is of Ignacio himself in his workshop when my father picked up the 1961. I will write another post with details of the 1970.

Thanks,
Zac

It will depend a bit on condition and playability, but the '61 might sell privately for around US$35k. More from a specialist dealer, but then you will have to factor in commissions.

It might also depend on how close the serial number is to the one played by Williams. It might go for touch more if it is very close to that in production date.

Peter meant $3,500.00. But I would give you $4,000.00 :ouioui:

It looks like John Williams had a 235. This one is 213.

The number is the build number, not a model or anything e.g. yours is the 213th they made. Which is encouragingly close to the Williams, the same year at least as your '61. I'm sure you are aware that the price achieved for no 235 would have been influenced by its provenance, and it says the price is "hammer price, plus buyer's premium, net of any applicable fees".

I am very sorry for your recent loss.

Should your family decide to sell one or both of these amazing guitars, may they find their way into the hands of someone who will cherish and enjoy them rather than into the hands of a collector looking for another stock item to add to their collection.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
