D01 4 players, 3 notes, 15 days, 1 voice

Postby Jean-François Delcamp » Sat Mar 05, 2011 8:45 am

Hello,
Here is a game to start us off, for 4 players.
Who would like to play it with me?

D01 4 players, 3 notes, 15 days, 1 voice
D01 means that the game is first year level.
4 players means that the work is to be constructed by 4 players.
3 notes means that each player invents a sequence of 3 notes.
The work is under construction for 15 days.
1 voice means that the collective work is monophonic.
The rhythm is free and modifiable.

The first player records a sequence of 3 notes, the second player repeats what his predecessor played and completes his phrase by adding another sequence of 3 notes to it. ... At the end of a week, one of the players finishes off the collective work with a concluding phrase and indicates in his post that the work is completed. If a contribution does not fit the specifications, the other player can ignore it or adopt it, but it is advisable to reject contributions that are above the level proposed and which would put the other player in difficulty.

Here then are my first 3 notes. I call this game London :

:cornet: When you decide to participate in a game and before recording your notes: post a message to say you are about to take the next turn.

There is nothing stopping you from starting up another game.

Okay, I'll see if I can make it go another three notes -- it's getting harder!

Here it is! This is really fun -- this game is a great invention. :bravo: I had to write the notes out since I wasn't able to remember them without doing so. I've never used a program for entering notes so I'll just write them out -- maybe save the next soloist some trouble :) : e e e g e c# a f e f a d e g c a c f
+ - - - - - - + + - + + - + +

The + and - indicate to either go to the next highest or next lowest of the note (hopefully) above it. e.g. the + under the frist g means go up from e to g on the first string. Hopefully I'm not spoiling the spirit of the game by writing it out.

Since Chris lives in Oahu and that was one of the first regions in Hawaii to be evacuated because of the Tsunami that has been devastating Japan, let's hope he's in a safe place. In hopes that we hear from him soon, I'm posting similar messages in the regular class forum and under the "Café" rubric.

Hello Penelope. Chris is still alive on Oahu. :D I really appreciate your concern. :merci: Yes -- I am on higher ground. I believe very little, if anything/anyone, was affected on this island. I think portions of Maui was. Still, most folks here took that Friday off -- I wasn't one. In fact, I and 2 regulars, was waiting at the bus stop that morning without a clue, until a fellow rider told us the bus was out, till further notice. So, I drove everyone in. At least traffic was better than normal -- to and fro.
