Hi Kent,

Yes, Holly is very photogenic. Here is another photo from an earlier point in the build:

I'm relieved, though, that she moved out of her nest before the back went on -- she might have affected the resonance. Then again, her presence might have assured the absence of wolf tones.

Best regards.

That's great news, Liapunov84. As Richard Reynoso is getting started on your Spruce/Indian Rosewood guitar, he has just sent along a new batch of photographs as he heads toward the home stretch with this Maple guitar. Inspired by the work of JG Stauffer and 19th-century guitar-makers, Richard decided to ebonize the Walnut neck of the instrument to contrast with the body of the guitar:

I just received these photos -- and the guitar itself -- from Richard Reynoso yesterday. The guitar is even more beautiful in person than it is in the photographs. The precision and clarity of Richard's work are miraculous. The guitar and strings are settling in after the cross-country trip. I believe that Richard will soon be posting a video of the guitar being played by someone infinitely more capable than I; any attempt I were to make would not do justice to this exceptional instrument.

The loveliest nylon I've ever seen.

Exactly how did he "ebonise" the neck? The effect is outstanding and very art deco.

I'm also interested in finding out how the neck was ebonised. James Westbrook ebonised the neck on my Roudhloff replica by veneering a piece of ebony! It was certainly a lot more difficult than painting the neck. It's not easy to veneer curved surfaces. A vacuum press is a good tool for veneering but I don't think he owns one of those devices.

Congratulations on receiving your lovely instrument. I can confirm your comments about the precision of Richard's work and his wonderful sense of aesthetic too.

I am sure it will sound fantastic and you will find playability first class too.

Just LOVE that new rosette design.

Peter

Truly gorgeous! Perhaps the neck is a dark wood, not ebonized? When I made one with highly figured mahogany body, I went for a black Brazilian rw neck - overboard all the way :)
