Dream guitar

Post by Andy Culpepper » Wed Mar 29, 2017 7:34 pm

So the other day I actually had a guitar design come to me in a dream. There were two specific elements to the dream: the rosette, and a new way to access the higher frets that I'm not sure I've seen before. The dream guitar really spoke to me so I've decided to create it in real life. Here is the rosette. The pencil line is where the sound hole will be cut out. In the dream it was actually a little wilder, taking up more of the upper bout but I decided to make it a little more reasonable.
A while ago there was a thread about line and berry (minus the berry) inlay for rosette making. I made a test idea with the technique but wasn't thrilled with it so never used it on a guitar. This is another version of that but liberated from the hard concentric circles that constrain far too many rosettes :)
The guitar probably won't be finished for a while as I have other orders to crank out but I wanted to get this design out of my head.

Thanks all for the comments. It looks like the guitar is now sold already!
So I've discovered that my "cutaway" idea has been done already, which I figured was the case as when it comes to guitars there are really very few totally new ideas, oh well.
Mine will not be as dramatic as this, probably intersecting at the 14th fret.

The word is out Andy. Soon your waiting list will be years, the guitars will fetch tens of thousands of dollars and there will be a separate section on Delcamp where owners discuss why they have the best of your guitars. No pressure though....

Oh gosh. I don't know if I'm ready to be a producer of "boutique guitars". But I would love for my guitars to be highly valued. Catch 22 :D

:daccord: Andy, my Culpepper is treasured, if not yet highly valued. Continue with your level of passion. Your day will come, even in this crazy world.

That rosette is pretty cool!
Are you going to bind the edge or are the lines just going to "disappear" into the sound hole?
