Would partial frets (not impeding or intersecting with the marquetry) align under the strings well enough to work? Fret 18 looks to be the only trouble spot. 17 and 19 have plenty room. The bass side never gets played on those high frets.
I started finishing this guitar, but to my eye it needed a little something extra to tie in the bridge and headplate and continue the black/white theme, so I added these diamond inlays. It looks "complete" to me now.
It turned out to be a great guitar IMO. Rich sound and a surprising amount of "headroom", just keeps getting louder the harder you play, without losing tone quality at all. I would consider this type of cutaway a success. It gives good access to the higher frets and I don't think the guitar is lacking anything in terms of tone. I'm hoping David will be able to record a little something on it.
