New Torres FE17

Post by andreas777 » Fri Jun 16, 2017 4:02 pm

Some weeks ago I commissioned a guitar, a Torres FE17, from Philipp Lerche, who is also a forum member here. Today Philipp sent me the first pictures of my new guitar, and he allowed me to post a few here in the forum. The guitar is not finished yet, but the pictures already show the master work in progress. I hope I can visit Philipp this summer in Leipzig and get the guitar directly from him (without shipping). If so, then we will celebrate the birth of the new master work in a good restaurant in the city of Leipzig.

I already have 19 guitars, but I think this instrument will be something special. It will be the first guitar that I don't buy second hand but that I commission and receive from a luthier. Philipp and I discussed all the properties of the new guitar, so it will be the first guitar that fits perfectly to all my needs. My fingers are a bit shorter than average, so the guitar will have a scale length of 63cm. However, my finger tips a thicker than average, so the nut width will be 54mm, that means 2 additional mm at the nut and 1 additional mm at the 12th fret.

Philipp showed me some nice pictures of spruce for the top and various flamed and non-flamed wood for the back. At the end we decided to take a nice Alp spruce top and a beautiful flamed walnut back. Here are 3 of the newest pictures...

Hi Jon, will you also go to Leipzig to get your guitar, or is it too far from Sweden?

I have not yet decided, I think there is one guitar between yours and mine though, so at the end of this year I think. I gladly wait :)

Sure! Unfortunately the wait list for a new Torres is very long, I think 153 years, so you should hurry to order one. I have heard that the body of Antonio de Torres died but his soul is still alive and active. Rumors say that it migrated to Leipzig due to better weather and working conditions. People say that his soul took possession of an innocent young man and it now calls himself Philipp, but I don't know if all these rumors are true.

Is this real?! Which I actually hope it is. That's how legend lives on.
