36 mm tuners

Post by Tim W » Sun Jan 07, 2018 5:41 pm

Just pulled the tuners off my 1968 Contreras as they were no longer very precise and discovered that they are 36 mm. I've always assumed they were Fustero, (Lyre, gold plated, nicely engraved). Any suggestions where I might find 3-per side 36 mm tuners? Thanks

Tim

Scheller has a model H with 36mm:

Rubner makes any spacing on request, on any model. Just contact them by email.

I replaced old Landstorfers (36mm) in my Rubio with Rubners
- good service (albeit a bit slow sometimes), quality and price.

Tim; Given the 36mm spacing the choices are somewhat limited. You could have a luthier dowel the existing holes and redrill for 35mm spacing. Having that done would open up all sorts of possibilities. If you would rather stick with 36mm, Rubners would be an excellent way to go.
If you are considering the Rubners, I would suggest contacting Kent via pm. He is a fellow Delcamper & a Rubner rep. He is very knowledgeable, and will go out of his way to help you. Thanks, Bill

Thanks to all for responding. I have communicated with Graham at Rubner, and he can provide some very elegant 36mm tuners, although with a long lead time. The Schellers also look to be excellent. However, I have several sets of very good 35mm tuners kicking around and since this guitar has little commercial value after being beat up by me for about 50 years I'm inclined to go for the plug & drill solution and not have to deal with an odd size in the future.

I'd go with the rubners, however another solution may be individual gilberts... they work for any spacing!

I've decided to go the "plug and drill" route. I have several pairs of decent 35mm tuners kicking around, (and a nice set of Rodgers I've been hoarding). I think that if I installed another set of 36mm tuners I could find myself back in this same situation in the future. Incidentally, I've learned that 39mm Gotoh tuners are readily available. Thanks to all.
