I would like to join the Amateur Luthier Group please. I have completed 4 instruments so far, and am just starting on the next one. On retirement my intention had been to set up a small business making bespoke instruments - maybe 2 or 3 instruments a year; consequently I set up a workshop and acquired the necessary tooling and materiel. I retired about 5 years ago and my strike rate is less than one per year! I really enjoy the challenge of making them, but trying to sell them is less interesting; moreover, competing interests such as golf and practicing the guitar have ' taken their toll on the time available'. As I play the classical guitar (not very well) I am striving to make instruments which are easier to play; consequently my last one was 630mm scale length with a slightly narrower neck then normal with a slight radius to the fingerboard - all with the aim of making extended barre playing easier as my barre technique is poor so my teacher tells me!
If I am accepted as a member of the group I look forward to passing on my limited experience, but mainly learning from others who have devoted themselves to the task with more dedication than I have.
