Kohno & - Sakurai Guitar Fan Club, Delcamp branch

Dear all,

Kohno & Sakurai guitars have got a quite high reputation in many countries. It is my pleasure to see fans and kins. Please follow and sign in :D

City and country: Tokyo, Japan
Model: #7
Date of production: 1970
Date of aquisition: 1970
Price of aquisition: Yen 70,000
Top: Cedar
Back: Rosewood
Side: Ditto
Neck: Cedrela
Fingerboard: ebony
Strings: Savarez medium tension series
Remarks: This was born in Kohno's prime days, 1965 - 1975. He won in 1967. Refretted in 2007. So keeps original Kohno tones. This is a 660 mm long scale model.

City and country: Tokyo, Japan
Model: Kono (old naming)
Date of production: 1956
Date of aquisition: 2007
Price of aquisition: Yen 45,000
Top: Spruce
Back: Maple
Side: Ditto
Neck: ?
Fingerboard: ebony
Strings: Da'ddario high tension
Remarks: I bought this in a net auction. Very shabby. I asked Sakurai-san twice of repairs. Sounds are not good but a real milestone to Segovia's praise in 1959 and a victory in 1967. This is a 650 mm model. Looks like an early Torres type.

Very best regards :bye:

Hi riffmeister san,

Yours is very rare. From where did you get this, in a Japanese net auction or another channel?

Regards

To the Honorable Whooper-san. Can you help me get a Kohno/Sakurai so I can join your club? At the moment, I can only watch with envy. Best regards.

Kohno fans have a look at this YouTube video from Bonproducer, that is the folks who record for Naxos.
"Andras Csaki plays Bach", also included some copyrighted compositions.
A very fine Kohno here.

Hello Whooper san, I acquired the guitar from an e - bay auction in the US. The seller was the second owner. He acquired the guitar from the son of the original owner who apparently acquired it in 1964 or 1965 while on a business trip in Madrid, Spain. It's a very nice instrument and it is in remarkably good condition. I have seen one other instrument almost identical to it in a recent e - bay auction in the US, but with much more wear.

Dear Whooper-san,

it's a pleasure to join your Kohno / Sakurai club and this is my membership "card":

City and country: Dusseldorf, Germany
Model: Kohno Professional-JS
Make: Kohno/Sakurai
Date of production: 2004
Date of aquisition: 2006
Price of aquisition: € 4,500
Top: Spruce
Back: Jacaranda
Side: Ditto
Neck: Mahagony
Fingerboard: ebony
Strings: Royal Classics Sonata
Remarks: Was immediatelly attracted by the open sound characteristic, good projection and the exceptional wide tonal range with brilliant highs and deep but well defined basses. Plaing this guitar gives me the impression, that the sound is generated outside of the guitar rather than coming out of a box. Recently she's on the way to it's place of birth for revision/repair. So Whooper-san will be able to welcome it early next week.

Hello Whooper-san,
Here is my Sakurai detail and my "official" membership entry:

City and country: Leesburg, Georgia, USA
Make: Masaki Sakurai
Model: No. 10
Date of production: 1979
Date of acquisition: 5 December 2006
Price of acquisition: $1950 (US)
Top: Solid Cedar
Back: Solid Indian Rosewood
Side: Solid Indian Rosewood
Scale length: 650mm
Neck: Mahogany
Fingerboard: Ebony
Strings: Augustine Regal Blue High Tension
Remarks: Excellent condition (very few dings), beautiful warm tone, easy action. After much trial and error, the recommended Augustine Regals really make this instrument come alive. Listeners have remarked that the bell-like trebles sound like a reverb.

Happy to be a new member,
John

I've had 5 Kohno's over the years.

My two favorites are a 1982 Spruce and Braz.
and a 1969 Kohno #12. The only #12 I've ever seen.

The '82 really sings to me and the '69 is a ceder top
with a luscious sound. They compliment each other very well.

I have a 1970 Kohno 15 Ced/Brazilian 660 scale. The back has a repaired crack, repaired by Juan Orosco(sp?) from New York, who was/is reputedly a Kohno expert. Sounds magnificent, plays like a dream. I just recently replaced the Gotoh tuners with Gilbert individual tuners because I could not find tuners with the correct spacing. I absolutely love playing this guitar and the way it sounds. BTW I bought it in 2003, paid under $2000 and it sounds better every day. I use D'Addario EJ 44c's/Ej 46c's.
