Here's my long-awaited (by me anyway!) entry to the club! A 1962 Masaru Kono. I have included a pic of a rather amateurish drawing I did of the bracing, which is quite unlike anything I've seen before. The sound is likewise unlike any of my other guitars, past or present.

Such a beautiful, yet simple looking guitar. A very good buy. Unique bracing indeed, not at all like my -65, that is more traditional. How is the playability compared to your favorite Nakade? It would be very interesting to hear a sound comparison as well, if possible!

Most welcome to the club :guitare:

The neck profile is very similar to the Rokutaro Nakade, 50mm nut with a slim neck which I find very comfortable and the playability is equally very easy. The sound is completely different though. I consider the Nakade very Spanish, I would describe it as a Granada style guitar. The Kono has a unique sound which is very hard to describe. In some ways quite similar to the Minezawa we both owned, but much stronger. I wouldn't know where to start to do a sound sample. I don't have any of the necessary equipment.

After replacing the batteries in my extending mirror, I have slightly amended the drawing of the bracing on my '62 Kono. Spot the difference! Still different to the other '62 Kono, though. How would you describe this bracing? How about interlocking fan?

So no horizontal bar at the bottom ? Interlocking fan seems a pretty good description.

Unlike some 5, 7 or even 9 bars, all these ones are connected with each other: just like some

big, happy family :)

No horizontal bar. What I thought was another brace was just the end block.

Glad to see another 1962 Masaru Kono here. As they better late than never as I join the club with my 1962 March 1 date of completion. Here is the link:

It was seeing yours that persuaded me to buy mine! I imagine yours is bit more traditional sounding than mine. I like to think of yours as "Christmas tree" bracing!

Here we go again, I got a offer I simply could not refuse...

Model: Masaru Kohno Maestro
Date of production: 1996
Date of acquisition: 2017
Top: Spruce
Back/Sides: CSA Rosewood

This is the top model and probably one of the last guitars Masaru Kohno built. Condition is fantastic for a 20 year old. When I plucked the first string (or rather the sixth string) for the first time, I just started to laugh. It sounded that good. The tone is sweeter/warmer than the other Kohno's/Sakurai's that I've tried from the 70s, 80, and 90s and the neck feels just perfect. All in all a very balanced and beautiful guitar, that I feel very happy and proud to own.

All the best from Sweden

What a stunning guitar! Congrats! :bravo: :D

Would be interesting to know if the bracing is still Kohno's 70's style parallel bracing or what I call the "lattice in lattice" bracing of recent Sakurai-Kohnos!

Thank you :) Here's a really amateurish picture of the inside, my iPhone doesn't really fit:

Thanks Jon! It's interesting to see that this bracing, which now seems to be the standard of recent Kohnos and probably Sakurais (at least in principle) had already been introduced while master Masaru was still with us.

How would you describe the sound difference to your '65 fan braced Kono?

This is a picture of the bracing probably taken from the video about Masaki Sakurai san.
