Dowland, John - A Fancy (Tremolo)

Postby Michael Butten » Fri Jun 17, 2016 6:27 pm

Hello all, I recorded this wonderful piece as part of a class on recording at the Royal Academy of Music. The class was for students to see the relationship between producer and performer, with the producer being Jonathan Freeman-Attwood, the principal of the RAM. I thought it might be interesting to compare this recording (with edits from takes chosen by Jonathan) with another recording I put on here of the piece that had no edits, which you can find here- viewtopic.php?f=110&t=96147&start=30

I hope you enjoy!

Lovely. Thank you. I never seem to tire of Dowland or Weiss.

Beautifully played. If there were edits, they were not obvious to me.
Again, I thoroughly enjoyed the piece!!

Thanks,
Frank

Thank you for this. I particularly enjoyed the range of dynamics.

That was great! I have never actually heard this played on guitar before, only lute. Did you play it from the lute score?

Thanks very much for the comments guys. I played the piece with the 3rd string tuned to f#, and then with a capo on the second fret. I did use the lute tablature for the piece as I do for all of Dowland's music.

Very enjoyable. Dowland's music is some of my all-time favorite.
