Weiss, S. L. - Prelude 34 - 13string guitar Video

Postby kamakiri85 » Thu Dec 24, 2015 4:37 pm

Hi Everyone,

Here's a video of me playing my 13 string guitar. The instrument is tuned just like a baroque lute, and in this case (since this Weiss suite is in Dm) the tuning is f d a F D A G F E D C Bb A. The basses change depending on what key the music is in.

I'm playing with classical guitar technique, that's with nails and not planting my pinky on the top.

I hope everyone has a happy holiday!
Thanks for looking.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I know that you mentioned in your introduction that you had your lute built. What a beautiful instrument and I enjoyed your performance! :bravo:

By the way I just approved you for the 002 Group. Have fun. :D

Sounds wonderful. Interesting design on the guitar. It's like a 10-string, then the extra three strings with the extensions. Looks nice that way. What kind of bracing does it have? Did the luthier need to reinforce it more than a traditional guitar? What scale length is it?

This characterization of classical guitar technique made me laugh :D
There is nothing more beautiful than the sound of a guitar - maybe aside from that of two guitars (Frederic Chopin)

Nice playing. I am hoping to build my own 13-string soon.

Oh! One more thing. How does your guitar case looks like?

Thank you both for the nice words! The guitar uses bernabe bracing and there is no additional reinforcement. I don't recall the exact scale length off the top of my head, but I believe the fretted 10 strings are around 640mm and the 3 drones are around 800mm. I'll get exact measurements if you're interested.

The back and sides are made from Indonesian rosewood (Jacaranda).

This characterization of classical guitar technique made me laugh :D

Haha, yeah my characteristics were extremely simplistic!

Here's a photo of the front and back of the guitar.

I made the case with the most simplistic design. its coffin shaped and is covered with Line-X (the tough spray on truck bed liner). I used multiple density foams for the interior and lined it with crushed velvet.

Thanks again!
Mark
