Carcassi, Matteo - op.60/11 - Video

Postby Rasqeo » Sun Mar 06, 2016 10:51 am

This is a video of me playing Carcassi's study no 11 from Op 60.

For the sound recording I used a Rode NT4, Focusrite itrack dock and Cubasis for iPad. I shot the video on an iPhone 6 and edited the video using iMovie. This was my first attempt at doing a 'decent' quality video and I was quite pleased with the result.

Any comments, positive or negative, gratefully received.

That's strange Stephen, I can see the video in the post in my browser. Not sure why you're not able to see it?

Good job. My theory is always, if it sounds good then it is good. Voicing is done particularly well.

No idea! Another video, the Mudarra one, comes up fine!

There's a big gap and then the word Youtube at the bottom of it, when I click that it says the video doesn't exist.

The tagging wasn't quite right, but I've now fixed it. Give me a few minutes, Rasqeo, and I'll send you a PM with some advice on that.

Geoff to the rescue ... Now it works fine :-)

I think you made a nice job of a deceptively tricky study. Often with this particular piece players get a bit unsettled by whether or not to actually do all the rests. We can discuss till the cows come home whether such rests are actually intended or not ... the trouble is sometimes they clearly are intended, sometimes probably they are meant just as spacers for the next written pitch.
Next time you think about this one, have a look whether, mainly the thumb, is making rests or not. Certainly, at least trying, is good technique development, even if at a lower than ideal tempo.

Thanks Geoff for sorting out the link and for the info on posting videos.

Stephen - thanks for the feedback! I agree it's a deceptively tricky study and that strictly observing the rests in the bass would make it even more difficult. I think this is one of those studies where there is always improvements to be made.
