Giuliani, Mauro - op.125/05 My lodging is on the cold ground

Post by Rui Namora » Wed Jul 23, 2014 6:47 pm

Some months ago, I posted here a video of one of the Six Irish Airs op.125, Garyowen.
I return frequently to this set of pieces arranged by Giuliani, dedicated to an Irish student/friend, William Kenny. It was written at a time Giulliani had already left Vienna and struggled to make a living in Italy.

The fifth piece, "My lodging is on the cold ground" is perhaps the most lyrical of the set.

For this recording, I played a romantic guitar, "Foetisch Fréres", early XXth century.

:bravo: :bravo:

I have read through these at times but never quite gotten serious about them. Your performance has inspired me to rethink that!

thank you, Kenbobldx!
I know that sensation, because for some years I did exactly the same. Played them, but never too seriously :)

Hi Rui Namora,

I really enjoyed your Giuliani performance! I don't think I've heard this one before, so it was interesting to listen to this. You produce a lovely tone on that romantic guitar of yours, and very nicely done! :bye:

Thank you very much for your comment, Joe.
These Giuliani pieces are little gems, very fun to play. Try to find the rest of this set and the Scotish Airs as well, if you haven't heard it. They are both available online in the Boije collection.

Cheers! :bye:
