Was there a reason the roman numerals for the barres are two difference sizes? The smaller "v" had me confused for a second -- I was thinking it was another right hand finger! (like p, i, m, a, and v!).

Yes - I do like the 2nd part. The thirs section is challenging for me - but good practice sorting out those high notes.

The notation at the end of the first part is confusing me - the low E - then marked - fl.X11 - on the g,b e . Does that mean an octave higher than written. Seeing a vid of it played they seem to be doing those notes up at the 12th fret ?

The notation "fl. XII" means in this case natural harmonics (from the Italian "flautato") at the 12th fret (which sound an octave higher).
