Fantastic! I know this piece by Bach only from Andrej Tarkowskijs film "Solaris" ( very great film).
After watching the film in the cinema I couldn't get the melody out off my mind.

Thank you very much, Kai!! :merci:

Yes, I remember Solaris by Tarkowskij. The book by Lem is also great and very intense.

I lately rediscovered this tune on youtube. Alexander Vynograd plays a 8-string guitar and uses his chin as a third hand for the basses.
I knew I heard this prelude somwhere before.

This music bring tears in my eyes... For me it is not only music from great movie by Tarkovsky, but also music from my childhood, when the weather was great, trees large, time extremely slow and the road near my house was endless and went right into the sky...it was also music (the whole cycle of choral preludes) that we listen with my wife when we met and the music, which sounds in our room when our sons were so little and funny and the world seems to them so interesting and promising.
It is all in the past. Time is so fast and life is seems crazy sometimes. I seldom hear this music now .
Thanks.
I'd better speak by music...Please listen Andrei Krylov at Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon Prime etc. Thanks!

Andrei, your post brought tears to MY eyes. You always write so beautifully!

Sorry I missed this when you first posted it, Kai. Well done and good fingerings, too!

This is so Romantic sounding! At times, it could be Schubert!

Thank you for your good work,

Alan

Thank you, Alan.

Andrei, your words touch my soul and let me remember scenes of my childhood. They also bring pictures from another film by Tarkovsky to my mind: Serkalo (The mirror/Der Spiegel).
...
Since in the score the middle voice is missing you can also find different Duo- and Trio-Versions of the piece here:

I just watched the Alexander Vynograd video... Seeing him use the chin for basses was so distracting I nearly forgot to listen to the music :shock: (which is quite beautiful).

Thanks Musikai for this beautiful version which i downloaded earlier this year and have been enjoying playing.

I don't suppose you would have to hand the words, as i would like to sing along as i play ( spreche ein bischen Deutscher)... so i can translate in my own time. :merci:

I really don't know the words of this choral, since it's an instrumental choral prelude but I found these words:

Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ
Johann Agricola 1494-1566

1. Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ,
ich bitt, erhör mein Klagen;
verleih mir Gnad zu dieser Frist,
laß mich doch nicht verzagen.
Den rechten Glauben, Herr, ich mein,
den wollest du mir geben,
dir zu leben,
meim Nächsten nütz zu sein,
dein Wort zu halten eben.

2. Ich bitt noch mehr, o Herre Gott
- du kannst es mir wohl geben -,
daß ich nicht wieder werd zu Spott;
die Hoffnung gib daneben;
voraus, wenn ich muß hier davon,
daß ich dir mög vertrauen
und nicht bauen
auf all mein eigen Tun,
sonst wird's mich ewig reuen.

3. Verleih, daß ich aus Herzensgrund
den Feinden mög vergeben;
verzeih mir auch zu dieser Stund,
schaff mir ein neues Leben;
dein Wort mein Speis laß allweg sein,
damit mein Seel zu nähren,
mich zu wehren,
wenn Unglück schlägt herein,
das mich bald möcht verkehren.

4. Laß mich kein Lust noch Furcht von dir
in dieser Welt abwenden;
beständig sein ans End gib mir,
du hast's allein in Händen;
und wem du's gibst, der hat's umsonst,
es mag niemand erwerben
noch ererben
durch Werke deine Gunst,
die uns errett' vom Sterben.

5. Ich lieg im Streit und widerstreb,
hilf, o Herr Christ, dem Schwachen;
an deiner Gnad allein ich kleb,
du kannst mich stärker machen.
Kommt nun Anfechtung her, so wehr,
daß sie mich nicht umstoße;
du kannst machen,
daß mir's nicht bringt Gefähr.
Ich weiß, du wirst's nicht lassen.
