[PDF] Pernambuco, João - Lágrima (Tango)

Postby Schneider » Wed May 06, 2015 4:53 pm

Hi delcamper's,

Maybe some of you have already seen the recent link of this facsimile :
http://www.justclassicalguitar.com/vpmusicmedia/biblioteca/Pernambuco_Lagrima.pdf

After a first reading I found that the harmonies were pretty interesting but I also found some typos in the score.
So here's my version including some personal fingerings (some could be a little 'young'):

'Hope you'll like it :)

Cheers,
Pierre

Hi Schneider,

Thank you for the beautifully edited score. I've been playing the tune for two days - it's a catchy melody and a nice tango rhythm. I don't agree however with some of your fingerings, because they differ from the original setup and actually take you to completely different positions, where the tango formations can't be brought out so easily and effectively . The original sheet music, the one your edited version is based on, is full of misprints, by the way, but these misprints are readily recognizable, I think. They are not conceptual mistakes, only misprints, although too many. Those early Argentine and Spanish editions (with a few exceptions) are collections of editorial mistakes, unfortunately. Even the short leader note in the very first bar is wrong, I think. It's e in the 1st bar, then it becomes f later (3 times), when it should actually be d in all cases, I think (at least my slide starts on d - I'm maybe wrong, too). Now I haven't got my version here, but if you don't mind I'll post my fingerings in question here in my next post. These are not 'mine' or special in any case, just I think I could understand what the editor had in mind in the first place.

Thanks again for the score and the for idea to play this piece - it's really enjoyable. And sorry for the criticism - fingerings are a matter of taste after all.

Hi Attila,

Please do so!
Actually, I've only played it once in order to catch the fingerings for this score. So, I'm not surprised theses are not bests.

Cheers,
Pierre

Hello Schneider,

Here's a corrected copy of the facsimile. I added some markings and fingerings to the original print alongside the old markings where these are unreadable or faulty. In some places there are differences in playing position between this version and your edited version, please compare them.

I know this version on Youtube :

Youtube
but not that of your score. Do you have any information about the author of this transcription? Is there a record of João Pernambuco?

I bought MelBay's 'Classic Tangos for guitar' a while back. The first tango in the book is called 'Lagrima by Franciso Tarrega' which was a bit of mystery, since I'm pretty sure Tarrega's Lagrima isn't a tango. So, it turns out it's by Pernambuco. Mystery solved.
It's also probably the only tango in the book easy enough for me :)
