Thanks tateharmann !!

You should try to build a guitar ! Unless you want to build a Ukulele because you love ukuleles, I would advice against starting with one. It is not much easier than a guitar. Get a good guitar kit (such as lmii), a good book or two, Robert Obrien or Bogdanovich videos, and 1 year later you will have a very decent guitar.

The only problem, that any amatheur luthier can confirm, is that it is a highly addictive activity. You have been warned ! :D

Thanks Ricardo for the tip!

Hello friends !

An update in my baroque lute build thread - I just finished the top.
First, after joining the two halves, I brought the top to its final thickness.

Then, came the rose carving...

Very far from perfect, but good enough....

Then I cut the braces and brought them to their final dimensions:

And glued them all:

After shaping the braces, and some cleaning, the top is done.

Thank you for this thread Ricardo. Very few ¨tutorials¨about lute building in the internet. Interesting to follow, might try it someday too.

Moving on...It's neck time!

I am using Maple for the neck and peg-box, and Ebony for the veneers.

First I planed the neck to achieve the curvature on the back side:

Then I planned, cut to size and glued the ebony veneer:

And finally, glued the neck to the body!

Next step was to plane the curvature on the front side of the neck, a feature of baroque lutes.

The show must go on!

Another major step forward; I have made the pegbox and glued it to the neck. I cannot recommend Mr Van Edwards course enough ! It is simply amazing.

First I made the plans to the pegbox:

Then I made it's structure, with Maple, glued the bass rider, and glued the ebony veneers:

The result looked pretty good, if I may say so:

And finally I glued it to the neck:

It's coming together nicely! Next step is the bridge.
