Thanks Alain !

Yes, my guitar will be similar to that one, by Mr Boutin; I actually had seen that picture of his guitar, while searching on google for design ideas, but I didn't know the luthier's name. His headstock is far more elegant than mine, but I am following the same idea.

The next step was the fretboard. This was the first time I did a fretboard all by myself. The last ones I bought pre-slotted, but for this one I had to do it, due to the different dimensions. I used the lmi fret slotting jig and their 650mm template, and everything went well.

I glued this one with epoxy. The neck surface had some epoxy left from the mess I made gluing the carbon fiber rods, and since the fretboard has a bigger gluing area, I was afraid of warping it by the water present in most traditional wood glues. Usually I just use titebond, and never had a problem, but this one was dead flat after clamping.

Merci beaucoup Alain ! Tres bien !

Continuing the build, the next step was the bridge....I had never done a bridge before, and this one with a large tie-block was making me worried...

I did it only with hand tools, no routers or table saws...and was very happy with the results.

13string49.jpg
I used East Indian Rosewood, trying to keep the weight as low as possible. I was aiming at 25 grams, but had to accept 29.7 grams...Lets see how it works.

Then, I measured the distance and glued the bridge.

Thanks Steve !

Today I started the finish of the guitar. The top will be french polished, and for the rest (neck, back and sides), I will try Tung Oil over shellac.

This is how it looks now after a few sealing coats of shellac:

It's looking good, Ricardo. I admire your spirit of adventure and the way that you've

surmounted the challenges that have occurred along the way. I look forward to seeing more

developments and the final instrument and, of course, how it sounds.

Thanks for the very kind words, Martinardo !

I'm getty very close to finishing this guitar.
After I applied most of the finish (french polish and tung oil), I finalized the fretwork:

Then I made the nut and the little acessory nuts for the "bass rider":
13string58.jpg
And finally I put some strings in the guitar !!

13string61.jpg
I still have to apply the last few coats of finish, and make some small adjustments in the saddle height.

Unfortunately, one of the tuners broke during installation (probably my fault), so for now I have a 12 string guitar :D

I am very very very happy with the sound it makes; very traditional, balanced, good volume, strong trebles and focused basses. I have to learn to play this beast, but I promise to post a small video and sound sample in the next few weeks.

Thanks all of you guys for following this thread !
:merci:

Hi Ricardo,

It looks to me that you have mounted the tunning machine on the wrong side. Is there a reason for doing so?

well seen mr Lin!

I did installed the tuners on the wrong side....the only reason is anxiety to finish the guitar! :D :D

I believe that is the reason one of them broke, when I forced it backwards....then I realised I had installed them the wrong way. I just bought a new one to replace the broken one, and it should be here in a few days, when I will install them all in the correct position.
