another 13-string guitar

This guy is playing BWV 995 suite. I am guessing he doesn't have this guitar tuned in D minor, but rather normal guitar tuning with successively lower basses, making 10=A and 13=E.

Edit: Here is another video where you can see this guitar up close. It was originally an 8-string that was made into a 13-string. Interesting how the tuners were installed.

His playing is quite good. I was amused by his facial expression before he started playing, it seemed a silent "well, here we go into the wild blue yonder. This could get interesting...."

The guitar itself seems to be a converted 8-string. I wouldn't think a 13s design would have those extra five tuners jury rigged around the headstock as this one is.

Did you notice this guitarist has some strings with colored sections (like an inch long)? I wonder how he colored the string. Paint?

The colored sections looked to me as if 'served,' (a nautical rigging term) with fine silk thread. Like Thomastik infeld does on the ends of it's strings. I think paint would not stick or last very well.
