Mozart, W. A. - Deh, vieni alla finestra, arr. J.K. Mertz

Post by Juergen Schenk » Sun May 03, 2009 8:54 pm

Mozart’s serenade „Deh, vieni alla finestra“ from Don Giovanni arranged for the guitar by J.K. Mertz (1806-1856). In the original score Don Giovanni accompanies his serenade with the mandolin.

Very nice, Juergen. As you play,I can visualize an intimate parlor performance in Vienna.

Hello Juergen,

A very charming performance of a charming arrangement!

This is one of the great arias from Don Giovanni and even though it is only a little more than a minute it is very profound, Mozart was truly a great melodist. I could sing along with your performance with a lot of expression, you phrased it perfectly, I'm guessing you must sing as well as play! :D

For those interested in the music you can find it right here on page 6 of this PDF from the Danish Royal Library

Thanks so much for sharing your sweet performance,

Aryeh

This is really wonderful music wonderfully played - it is like being transported back in time, eg, to when Mozart himself conducted his own operas here in the old "German" opera house in Prague!

@Aryeh: it was a good idea to post the link to the score, I didn't know this source. I played the piece from Stefan Hackls excellent book "Mozart fur Gitarre" (Doblinger Verlag)

Thank you, Juergen. It was a pleasure to listen to you, as I am currently working on this piece and others from Kuckuck. This quite an old thread and it is, perhaps, helpful of me to offer some new information to readers. In addition to the public domain facsimiles, e.g. Danish Royal Library, there is a modern Japanese edition in two volumes published by Gendai Guitar in Japan, (ISBN 978-4-87471-517-8 C3373 and 978-4-87471-518-5 C3373.) I purchased mine from Strings by Mail in the US. Given my poor eyesight, these were so much better than the poor copies of the facsimile editions.
