Anon. - Maro Pontkalleg - D03

Post by maton325 » Mon Oct 24, 2011 1:50 pm

Enjoyed trying to come to terms with this lovely
older sounding melody. Repeated some middle bars to extend
the tune.

cheers

Thanks for sharing your recording with us.
You play it clear, you play this piece at the tempo that is right.

I love this song, I also enjoy when I playing it.
It has unusual name, it has it's own atmosphere, just lovely. :merci:

:bravo:
Great performance on this piece, Peter.
I really like the strong marching feel that you have used, it makes it so dramatic.
This is such a fun piece to play, I usually pick up the tempo and it changes the whole attitude of the piece.
Thank you for recording your interpretation of this piece for us. It was a real pleasure to hear you play.
:merci:

I just started learning this piece in the D03 collection - it has a kind of Celtic rhythm to it; do you know its origin?

- thanks very much for sharing it!

I looked this up when I was learning this piece. It's Breton in origin, and was first recorded in the "Barzaz Breiz" (Ballads of Brittany) published by Théodore Hersart de la Villemarqué in 1839

A Maro is a "Death Song" or "Mourning Song" (cf Welsh Marwnad). Pontkalleg (Marquis de Pontcallec) was the supposed leader of a "Breton Rebellion" who was executed by the French government in 1720.

I always like knowing the stories behind music!
