guitar harpsichord music

Post by Jane Clark » Sun Feb 26, 2017 10:14 pm

My name is Jane Clark and I am a harpsichordist but I am also Stephen Dodgson's widow. Stephen wrote a lot of guitar music, Julian Bream called him 'the Daddy of the English guitar'! Stephen taught John Williams theory when he was a junior student at the Royal College of Music. I saw your questions about music for guitar and harpsichord. Stephen wrote two pieces for this combination, Duo Concertante and Dialogues. Both are now published by Cadenza Music.
I love the guitar and am interested in its position in chamber music. It is such a wonderful ensemble instrument.

Welcome to the forum Jane. I knew Stephen a bit, in the 1990s via the London Guitar Orchestra including the performance of one of his ensemble pieces. He was also kind enough to spend a couple of hours with me looking through my guitar concerto and making helpful suggestions - even though I'm fairly sure it wasn't to his taste! I also performed with a harpsichordist on a visit to Latvia, though can't recall what we played ... it was in 2000.
