Hello everyone

Post by Cameron2112 » Sat May 27, 2017 6:24 pm

Good afternoon!

from my user name you get two things: my name is Cameron and I LOVE Rush! Buy that's besides the point. I've been playing guitar on a casual basis for many years but started classical guitar lessons two years (currently working on Capricho Arabe).

I also began to indulge a long term interest in woodworking. My wife got me John Bogdonavich's book on classical guitar making fro christmas a few years and the more I read the more I want to try building one. So I thought I'd turn to this forum for advice on building and join in discussions on various guitar topics.

My very first thought on seeing your name 8) welcome to Delcamp. I don't know what other members' perspective on the likes of Rush would be but I've long thought there is a degree of classical-type composition to much of their work, not least in the mixing of time signatures etc, plus Alex's occasional foray into playing on nylon strings.

Welcome to the forum Cameron.

I'm embarrassed to ask this, but who are Rush?

And how did you guess about being a Rush fan?

No need to be. They are a Canadian prog rock band, noted for their complicated song structures, occasional instrumentals and for the genre, unusually intellectual lyrics. Their guitarist, Alex Lifeson has recorded a couple of instrumentals on a classical guitar. Despite estimated album sales overall of well over c.40 million their commercial profile has not been very high, so its easy to sail through and never notice them. Their wikipedia page seems to be quite good.

2112 is the title of one of their most important albums.

Thanks Stephen. I've just caught up curtesy of youtube. Such a fat sound for a three piece. Insane musicians based on what I've just seen. And what an incredibly unique voice the lead singer has. I know what my next CD purchase/s will be!!

Groovy! The vocalist tends to divide opinion.

Re nylon strings, look up 'Broon's Bane.'
