This is my introductory post so here it goes..
I've been playing for about 12 years now (has it really been that long?). I got my first guitar, a BC Rich Warlock, and my first amp, a Line 6 Spider 2, way back when I was 19. I began playing music I the genre I had recently become obsessed with, extreme metal, and was soon addicted, playing (poorly) for hours every day. I learned quickly but plateaued just as quickly and net sought formal lessons. Within 3 years I had even released some original music back when people still regularly made CDs.
I'm older now and even though I still love to listen to and play extreme metal, I have also grown to appreciate classical guitar. About a year ago I purchased my first nylon string guitar and within a few months decided that, while I was still young and without kids, I should expend some effort in actually expanding my abilities and increasing my skill level. I found a local guitar teacher and for about 8 months now I have been taking lessons once per week.
Having never learned to read music, the first bit was just getting down the basics. I am through the beginner book, and have made it to the second book in the RCM Etude and Repertoire series.
My teacher told me this site would be a good place to speak to fellow musicians and to discover some free music to learn. I have a deep interest in John Dowland and similar renaissance era composers and hope to find better access to sheet music in this style on this site.
I look forward to my time here.
