Greetings from Perth

Post by reorx66 » Sun Jul 09, 2017 5:12 pm

Hi!

I am a classical guitar player from Western Australia. I have played since I was around 11 or 12 years of age and am trying to pick it up again after a year and a half hiatus ( I am turning 20 this year). I took lessons all throughout high-school but only really saw the fruits of it in my final year. I also have a much smaller amount of Piano experience around 2 or 3 years. I am particularly interesting in melancholic guitar pieces and love the works of the likes of Leo Brouwer (A Cuban Landscape in Rain being one of my favourites) Richard Charlton (I fell in love with Berceuse) and am currently working on re-learning a transcription of Gymnopedie No1 by Erik Satie. I recently came out of some mental health issues and am rediscovering classical guitar and trying relearn as much as I can before I contact my former teacher as I would potentially like to start up formal lessons again. It will be nice to become a part of this community and am already following a couple of threads for piece recommendations.

Hi reorx66,

Welcome to the forum! Please have a look at this page for some useful information to get you started, including links to the rules and helpfiles. After your second message has been approved, you will have access to all members' scores and recordings plus the first 3 levels of the Delcamp score collections. After you have posted 20 messages, you can apply for the 020 group, which will give you access to the remaining levels. Just ask if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing you around!

Best wishes,
Geoff

Hi,

Welcome to the site, hope you enjoy.

Regarding the issues you have been overcoming, I found David Russell's recording of Tarrega pieces very uplifting and helpful in rediscovering my love of life after the same, strongly recommended. Not cheap unfortunately.

In terms of melancholic pieces have you tried Canco Del Lladre by Llobet.

All the best

G'day reorx66, welcome to the forum. As you have probably found by now, an amazing

amount of info, resources, experience and knowledge here. As to guitar pieces, I know nothing.

Except, perhaps the music of Dowland. He seemed quite keen on Em. For something completely

different Andrew Yorks "Squares Suspended" is pretty cool.

Thanks for the reply, the site really is interesting and I am glad I found this site I have found so many cool looking pieces that I would have never heard about otherwise. I have been trying to find Dowland stuff but I haven't really been able to find people playing his songs on the classical guitar on youtube atleast and this Squares Suspended track is really nice thanks for the recommendation.
