US $.3000 Jean-Marie Fouilleul cedar 2002, Ithaca, NY

Post by Andy Culpepper » Tue Apr 05, 2016 12:01 am

Hello all,
This guitar is a powerful instrument, with a tone that I consider typically French. Very lush, with surprising volume and a full-bodied, supported tone.

The French polish on the top was touched up by myself, mostly because it had a pretty nasty scratch, which you can see on the bass side of the upper bout, above the rosette. It's now filled and leveled off, and the shellac was refreshed all over, removing most of the stray nail marks.

The guitar has one crack in the soundboard which was expertly repaired years ago and has remained stable. It's just behind the bridge as you can see in the picture.

Luthier/model: Jean-Marie Fouilleul GC1
Year of construction: 2002
Scale length: 650mm
Nut width: 52mm
String spacing at nut: 44mm
String spacing at bridge: 65mm
Neck thickness/shape: 22mm to 23mm, flattish D shape
Action: 4.2mm bass, 3.5mm treble
Top: Western Red Cedar
Back/sides: Indian Rosewood
Fingerboard: Ebony
Bridge: Rosewood
Condition: Used, good
Sound: Traditional

Viewing/trial possible near Ithaca, NY.

Price: $3600, includes case. Buyer pays for shipping. 3 day return period, buyer pays return shipping.

Very nice tone with strong trebles, but not piercing. Indeed ver much "a la francaise", my Dominique Delarue cedar sounds similar. Good luck for the sale.

Since no one seems to be breaking down the door on this, I decided to let it go for $3600.

Very melodic sounding, a nice combination of guitar and player. Am curious what is the name of the piece he is playing?

Hi Andy,

Can you verify this dimension please? Isn't that an unusually wide spacing?
