US $.3000 Salvador Castillo 8-string Brahms guitar spruce 2013, Anchorage, Alaska

Post by Ryan Nitz » Thu Sep 29, 2016 10:09 pm

Type / luthier: Salvador Castillo 8-string Brahms guitar
- Year of construction: 2013
- Scale length (mm): 615-650mm
- Top: European spruce
- Back/Sides: Palo Escrito
- Neck/Fingerboard: cedar with ebony fingerboard
- Sound: Great balance, warmth, wide variety of tone colors, good projection
- Condition: Very good
- Price: $3,600 USD plus shipping
- Viewing: local viewing possible
- Location: Anchorage, Alaska US

For sale is a fantastic Salvador Castillo spruce top 8-string Brahms guitar, made in 2013. The back and sides are some very attractive Palo Escrito that I selected from Salvador's stock. The instrument is entirely French polished.

The overall condition is very good. There are no structural issues. The only cosmetic issues are some cloudiness of the French polish on the back due to body heat, and some light nail marks in the French polish on the top. The instrument comes with a Palo Escrito endpin that Salvador made, which attaches to the butt of the guitar via a threaded bolt as shown in the photos. I have rarely used it, and instead have used a magnetic Barnett support in a more traditional playing position.

Playability is great. I string it with a high tension Savarez Alliance set with Cantiga basses on the middle six strings, a Hannabach 815 SLT for the high A, and an Aranjuez bronze wound AR1007 for the 8th string (which I tune to either A or B, depending). The multiscale breakdown is as follows: string 1 615mm, string 2 620mm, string 3 625mm, string 4 630mm, string 5 635mm, string 6 640mm, string 7 645mm, string 8 650mm.

Schaller tuners, Hiscox Pro II case.

I am selling because I just cannot seem to adapt successfully enough to the 8-string terrain. I commissioned the instrument, so I've had three years to get used to it, but I am not satisfied with my progress. Nothing to do with the instrument itself, just my own ineptitude.

Shipping to US only. Also willing to consider reasonable offers.

Beautiful guitar. Certainly a rare listing.
What can this strange device be?
When I touch it, it gives forth a sound
It's got wires that vibrate and give music
What can this thing be that I found?

Bump and one last price reduction to $3000.00 US.

Also, if anyone is considering an 8-string but is put off by the high A first string, I've been playing this instrument as a more "standard" 8-string recently (first string E and strings 7 and 8 at low D and A) and the sound is great.

That fretboard is wild.
And that Palo escrito is sexy

But from the looks of the guitar's face, it doesn't seem so happy you're trying to sell it.

Or maybe it is just the bridge.
