US $.3400 Michael Thames Brazillian/Italian classical 2006 Midland MI

Postby fitness1 » Fri Oct 28, 2016 2:40 pm

Michael Thames classical
2006
650mm scale - 52mm nut
Bearclaw Italian Spruce top (French Polish)
Brazillian Rosewood back and sides (French Polish)
Ebony fingerboard/Brazillian rosewood bridge
Sloane tuners w/ebony buttons
Body Length: 19 ¼”, Upper Bout: 11”, Lower Bout: 14 ½”, Body Depth @ Heel: 3 5/8”, Body Depth @ Tail: 3 7/8”
Extremely balanced sounding instrument - nice clarity and really full trebles - wonderful intonation
Please see condition details below
3400.00 US
Available for viewing in Midland MI - will not ship for approval

An incredibly lightweight and wonderful sounding instrument from the shop of Michael Thames. Woods are much more beautiful in person.

Regarding condtion, being French Polished, there are some areas to note that are not perfect in the finish. Most notably below the bridge where there are a lot of small marks from string changes apparently (see picture) The top is very clean otherwise. The back has two small scratch/indentations (one I managed to picture - the other is much thinner and a little longer) There is also some minor clouding in the finish on the back when you get it into the right light. I may contact Michael to see if there is anything I can do about this before I ship it out.

Only other thing cosmetically is there are some imperfections (looks like it was just part of the polishing process) along the neck heel on both sides in the Brazillian.

The case does have some abrasions on the top (lower bout mostly), but is totally solid and all latches work. It seems to have a sturdier top than some of the newer Humicase Metros that I've had here. Maybe an older model that is built better?

Action is currently at 3.5mm with plenty of saddle to bring it down if you so choose. I've just cleaned the entire body, cleaned and conditioned the fingerboard, polished the frets and installed a new set of Curt Mangan normal tension strings. I'll throw in 2 extra sets of those with the purchase.

Shipping will be actual on my Fedex account and to the CONUS only. Paypal is accepted add 75.00 and I'll cover the rest.

Here's a clip I recorded quickly today (11/13) - turn the volume slider up on the Box player before listening.

Nice looking instrument. The BR is really spectacular. Good luck with the sale. A photo showing the label would be nice.

EDIT. Typo fixed.

That is one gorgeous guitar. Thames is a genius, I'll never sell mine. Highly recommended.

Wow! That's just beautiful. Elegant. Michael Thames builds a very handsome guitar. Would love to hear it live.

You would have liked a Charis I had built last year......I saw the Bearclaw top and Sinker Mahogany on RC Tonewoods site and new I had to make a guitar out of it!

I've dropped this 100.00 to help with paypal and shipping fees. I've received a few PM's from Thames owners telling me the price was already too low. Hopefully anyone on the fence will be nudged......

Spruce Brazilian 650/52 Thames with no cracks for under $4k? It's only been what four days, give it a bit and I'm sure it will sell. I'd be tempted if I didn't just get a new guitar... GLWS.

It's turning cold here soon in MI and I don't like shipping delicate instruments in harsh conditions, so I'd like to see it move soon!

For what it is worth that is my view too. :-) You could always raise it a bit? There are precedents.
