2017 C.E. Sobel "Conservatory" Model #12 with a cedar top and Madagascan rosewood back and sides. This guitar was built in tandem with a guitar built by Andy Culpepper as part of our project to construct two guitars made from sister cut sets of identical wood. The guitars will be the subject of a forthcoming article in American Lutherie.

This particular guitar is part of my conservatory line, aimed at delivering a concert level instrument at a student guitar price. I reserve one or two spots on my waitlist each year for a lower priced student instrument, and strive for a simple but cohesive aesthetic. They are every bit as good as my concert models in sound and playability, but with scaled back appointments and basic tuners, and they are not made to order. This particular instrument features a gorgeous western red cedar top and a four piece quartersawn Madagascan rosewood back.

This guitar is what I would consider a semi-traditional concert instrument, featuring double sides popularized by Daniel Friederich but with a traditional fan bracing based off the Elliott/Hauser design. A primary air resonance of F# gives this guitar a dark and warm sound, but with a very focused treble fundamental that gives it an excellent separation of notes. Overall an excellent guitar that would be at home either in the hall or, thanks to a nice color range, in the living room. It is finished entirely in French polish, but at a slightly lower gloss level than my concert guitars. For more information on the differences between my concert and conservatory models, as well as a sound clip please visit this page: http://www.sobelguitars.com/student-instruments/

Higher resolution images are available here: http://www.sobelguitars.com/available-guitars/

Spanish cedar neck, Madagascan rosewood bridge, ebony fingerboard slotted at 650mm. Neck is 52mm at 1st fret, 62mm at 12th, sparing spacing at the nut is 42.5mm, at the bridge 58mm. Overall weight is approx. 1650g. Current action is 4mm/2.9mm at the 12th fret, but with plenty of saddle to lower. I will set this up to the customers specification. Neck is a modified D profile and would be best suited to medium or large hands.

Shipping only to the USA for this particular guitar. I will need a one week lead time to adjust the action to customer preference and perform a final buffing of the finish. Equipped with Hannabach 815 medium tension strings. Please contact me with any additional questions or for a longer sound clip. The below photos were taken with only 75% of the finish on and without a final buffing... it's shinier now :D .

Thanks!

I own a Chris Sobel Guitar. Mine is also Cedar with Madagascar Rosewood back and sides.

It is the best guitar I have ever played and it overperforms guitars at 3x or 4x the cost.

Anyone looking for a guitar should jump on this offer. Chris is literally giving this away! Virtual theft!

Honestly, Chris does fantastic work.

Congratulations Chris, glad to see such a lovely instrument placed so quickly.

MrSteve, fast but no record. I think that stands at about the two hour mark...

Neither of those was THAT quick. The two hour rehire was for a Simon Ambridge that listed after I went to bed and was sold before I woke up next morning. Literally two hours. Never mind, I happened upon a beautiful Ambridge a couple of years later.
