Morin, L. A. - Petit Étude - D04

Postby tateharmann » Thu Jul 07, 2016 10:19 pm

This little composition is by a French-Canadian Composer, Ludovic-Alexandre Morin. He has a lot of great compositions available here and on his site (he's quite a player, too!) Another favorite of mine by him is "Les Quatres Cents Coups" - just lovely..

Anyways, I hadn't played this one for a while, so I thought I'd have a go at it with my recently developed fingertip technique (without fingernails, sans ongles, sin uñas haha). I tried hard to craft the shape and sound of each note. I've been playing a tiny bit closer to the bridge than I normally would. I think the definition of the sound is nice and firm while retaining the sweetness of the sound quality you can get by playing without fingernails on gut and silk strings.

Thanks for listening!

I enjoyed that although I play it at more or less the same tempo as J-F Delcamp.

Thanks for the comment :) I checked my other recordings of it and here's one from 2014 with the same guitar (Redman) but with nails and modern strings: https://soundcloud.com/laguitarraclasic ... -lutzwenge

Slightly faster, but still not as fast as Delcamp..

I just play slow I guess ha.

:bravo:
Really beautiful performance, Tate! This is such a lovely piece and you did it justice.
I think that Morin composed some wonderful pieces and I like all of them.

Bravo! I vote for the no-nail version. I hope one day I can be confident enough in my guitar playing to try things not prescribed by my teacher...

Nice! I didn't know L.A. Morin even if I'm from Montreal. Maybe I've been living in the bush for too long!

What a melancholy piece! You played it with such tenderness. :bravo:

The tone quality you're achieving with no nails sounds fine to me. :casque:

:merci:

Thanks all!

There's definitely something special about a Torres-esque instrument strung up with gut and played with the fingertips only :)
