Stewart, Peter - In Dance She Dreams

Post by Matthew McAllister » Wed Feb 29, 2012 4:47 pm

Hi folks,

Last year at The Classical Guitar Retreat in July I gave the world première of this new solo piece for guitar by Peter Stewart.

It was a lovely gift from the composer and my friend Peter Stewart and it was a fitting way to begin the 2011 CGR.
Later that year I visited my friends at the Gitaarsalon in Enkhuizen - Holland and we made a video of the piece.

Here is the story of the piece:

A woman dances on a beach in the early morning light - her arms extended as if to hold her partner.
Watched from a distance she spins and spins.
She Dances but once a year - it is the day her soldier did not return.
If you happened upon the beach you may find - two sets of footprints.......

Hope you enjoy!

It is a lovely piece, and, as usual, you play it with so much feeling. It really is a joy to listen (and watch).

Hello Matthew,

That is one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever heard. Your playing brings such love and tenderness to the wonderful notes your friend, Peter Stewart has so poetically has written.

Simply and profoundly beautiful. It's as if I could envision this lonesome soul longing for the love who never returned. Such a basic, tender human sense to this piece.

Matthew you are one of my favorite performers. Press on.
