Ah, but I am the one who sent her packing, not vice versa. And I shall never, ever get married again...

Before I was married I worried about how wearing ring would affect my playing. Shortly before the wedding I went to see Gordon Giltrap play, he had rings on both hands and I thought well, if he can do it I don't have much excuse do I....

Like the other posters on here, I only notice the ring causing trouble on the odd occasion - usually in the form of some accidental bottleneck. Playing classically usually requires fairly curved pointed fingers so the base of the third finger doesn't come into contact with anything normally.

Not sure that Yngwie Malmsteen playing electric guitar on a scalloped fretboard is a good comparison for Classical guitar technique, but thanks for the inspiration! The man can play.

If you're playing guitar to pick up girls, ditch the ring. Don't forget to do something about the tan line.

I wear my ring on my LH all the time. It does not fit on any other finger so switching it to the right is not an option for me. Never bothers my guitar playing, and my ring is fairly wide. You just get used to it.

This made me laugh. Thank you.

I first posted this message before I had really jumped back into practicing coming off a multi-year layoff (during which I got married). Now that it has been a week or so, I haven't really had any issues with it. Thanks to everyone for the responses.

I got tired of taking it on and off for martial arts training. Also, I am about 20 pounds heavier than when I got married. Finally, in addition to the weight gain, I think my fingers and knuckles have swollen (aging is not for the faint of heart). So my wedding band has been in my jewelry box for 5 years.

Between working with hand and power tools and my own martial arts training, I have also taken to not wearing my ring. I put it on when we go out (most of the time) but it's what it represents for me rather than the band itself that keeps me true to my vows.

...nor is aging for sissies :D You know it's a trivial process to get your ring re-sized.
