When I do r.h. exercises I like to use the pinky as well. Even with my students. Brouwer study no. 6 is one that's fit to use it in. Not sure what you mean with "a good amount of time", but using the pinky in some exercises/pieces will make you aware that you have it and work towards a more relaxed right hand.
