Hello everyone,

this year I'm going to do things a little differently.

I will no longer be moving the old lessons to the archives.
I have closed (locked) all of the past year's lessons, while leaving them in the "On-line classical guitar lessons" forum.
I will unlock the ten lessons of the course, one at a time, on the dates announced, which will be the first Wednesday of the month, from September to June.

For this year, 2017-2018, the lessons will be opened up, or unlocked, on the following dates:
Wednesday 6 September 2017
Wednesday 4 October
Wednesday 1 November
Wednesday 6 December
Wednesday 3 January 2018
Wednesday 7 February
Wednesday 7 March
Wednesday 4 April
Wednesday 2 May
Wednesday 6 June

With regard to the year-end exam, I will offer a choice of two set pieces in 2018: one from the public domain and one copyrighted work whose editor has agreed to its being posted on the forum.
So that everyone can get hold of the music in time for the exam, I am planning to ask students on the 7th of March 2018 to order a particular collection.
Then, so that all students have the same length of time to work on the exam piece, I will not reveal the title of the actual set piece from the collection until a month before the exam.
I am choosing this solution of a collection of pieces because if students are going to be asked to make purchases, it is best to have them buy collections which are good value for money and which will enrich their musical culture.

The moderators and I have read your messages in the topic "Future of the online lessons on this forum" viewtopic.php?f=118&t=111773 .
On behalf of myself and the moderators, I would like to thank you all. Thank you for your comments and for your appreciation.
It is a great pleasure for the whole team to see your desire to continue the online courses.
Welcome back!

There will be a few new features this year:

Now, thanks to Marie, you can download the level D01 lessons in tablature.

As suggested by Jean Aragon, I will entrust new responsibilities to D06 and D07 students who have obtained their year-end diploma. I propose that they can, if they wish, help with the moderation of the online lessons on the forum where they speak the language, or that they can give advice to students of levels D01 to D05, likewise on their own forum. Their role as tutor for the new students will be recognized by membership of the "Student tutors" group, a new group to which I shall add any volunteer(s) generous enough to take on this role.

Clément Pic, guitar teacher, has offered to post one or more instructional videos, for one or two pieces during the year. Clément's videos will be added to the usual lessons already scheduled in the calendar for the year.

As Nicolas Teichner has suggested, it would be interesting to work on some copyrighted repertoire too. So, as mentioned earlier, for the year-end exam I shall select some of those works whose editors have agreed to their being posted on the forum, to keep as set pieces for the exam. You will need to buy these publications yourselves and I am counting on you not to use or distribute pirated copies of them. Publishers and composers need to earn money from their work if we want them to continue to provide us with a feast of new and beautiful works.

Enjoy the lessons, everyone!

Some interesting changes to come. I look forward to D06. A couple questions:

Do I assume correctly, since it was not mentioned, that D06-D07 are still only available on the Spanish forum?

If I understand correctly we will still have access to past lessons in another area but not under "archives", correct? I sometimes like to look ahead when there is time to get a head start on a lesson for time management purposes.

Finally, how does one request Student Tutor status? Will there be specific expectations of tutors? I assume by holding a certificate, you mean a certificate for D05 (for a D06 student).

Summer is over. It's been fun working on things I've been wanting to learn and going back to last lessons to refine a bit, and like you a little time on the water. Now back to the discipline. Thanks, Maestro, for your tremendous past and future efforts.

Hi Rick,

You're right that D06-D07 are still only available on the Spanish forum.

All of last year's lessons (2016-2017 session) will stay in the same forum as now, and you will still be able to see them and look ahead. Those that we haven't yet come around to for a second time will be locked, but still readable.

I'm not sure the full details of the Student tutor role have been established yet, but I had assumed it would be for students who have obtained a year-end diploma at either D06 or D07 level. I will check and let you know.

Hello Rick,

I'm glad to see you're part of the lessons this year. I'm only starting in the first year lesson but will surely also benefit from your contributions.

Thanks James. I'll be sure to pop into D01 once in a while to see how you're doing. Good luck!

Under the new system existing students remain registered if they have posted since March so do not have to reregister for lessons each year.
Looking forward to seeing you in the new lessons and hope you enjoy.

Hi Rick, as promised, I've checked these points with Jean-François and this is what he said:

Former D06/D07 students who have obtained at least their D06 diploma can apply for the role of student tutor by contacting the administrator or moderators, either publicly or privately. Being a student tutor consists in providing encouragement and advice to new students who request it, so you need to have the free time available. If, as can happen to any of us, you find there are periods when you no longer have time for voluntary activities, you just have to inform the moderators or administrator, who will then take you out of the "Student tutors" group either temporarily or permanently.

If you are interested in applying for the role when you have your D06 diploma, you will be very welcome.

"Former D06/D07 students" is the part that threw me. JFD said D06/D07 students, which I will be this fall. But the intent is D06/D07 graduates.

Thanks for clarifying Geoff.
