Talk about things that are not necessarily related to music or the guitar.

Shredding is part of the culinary process for the preparation of cabbage for coleslaw. The cabbage is "shredded" into thin strips before the addition of an appropriate sauce.
Shredding also refers to the process for chopping up documents into small pieces to make them unreadable. Usually done with a document shredder. The process can also be used on objects such as hard drives. It is extremely unwise to get parts of your body caught in such machines.

"Grunge" distortion pedals? Those of us who were shredding back in the day avoided anything associated with Grunge or Curt Cobain. Grunge offended our spandex-sensibilities. Shredders were concerned with growing their hair, cramming as many notes as possible into each measure, and looking prettier than the girls.
Those into "Grunge" weren't concerned with their cleanliness, or even how to play their instruments properly.

George once commented in an interview (when asked about Segovia) that he (Segovia) was the father of us all (guitarists) or something to that effect. When Segovia was asked about he responded that 'they play the electric guitar. I'm not even their illegitimate father' or something to that effect. George never studied classical (as far as i know) but acquired a Ramirez (blue label I believe) at some point and noodled around on it in a psuedo classical style (basically attempting to emulate what he heard Segovia or others doing).

You do it by having fast fingers (work on isotonic exercises for your fingers) and knowing how to manipulate the pick in your right hand. Troy Grady has been an invaluable resource on this topic.

It's a thing that shreds paper. You buy it at Staples I would guess.

Check out Youtube 'fluid approach to fast scales Matt Palmer' where he discusses the PMI approach to achieve speed.

In his younger days, Matt was an electric guitar 'shredder' and from there he has evolved into a world-class musician on the classical guitar.

Meanwhile on a literature forum somewhere people are asserting that if Shakespeare had been alive today he'd have been a soap-opera staff writer.

He may well have been, although soap operas are a little passé now. He'd probably be making YouTube videos.
